TORONTO - Eric Hassli has been ruled out ahead of tonight’s match against the Los Angeles Galaxy after limping off late in last week’s draw against the Philadelphia Union.
“He’s obviously out for the weekend and I’d say extremely doubtful for Tuesday’s (Champions League match in El Salvador),” Reds head coach Paul Mariner said. “It was a bad tackle from my viewpoint.”
The Reds travel to L.A. for the first time since topping the Galaxy in last year’s Champions League quarterfinals, one of the few positives this season.
“We’ve done a little bit of work on sort of options,” Mariner said of playing without his target man, who scored last Saturday against the Union. “I think the side is more or less set. I don’t want to let too many people know just yet … Ryan (Johnson) and Ashtone (Morgan) will be playing and so will Luis (Silva). It’s up to the opposition to work out what we’re going to do.”
The Galaxy enter tonight’s match on short rest following a midweek Champions League group stage draw in Puerto Rico.
Already out of playoff contention, the Reds will continue working towards next season while fighting for jobs that might not be there come December.
