Reds' Plata MLS player of week
By RYAN WOLSTAT, QMI Agency

TORONTO - Joao Plata made quite the first impression as a starter for Toronto FC.

The 5-foot-2 highlight machine was voted Major League Soccer's player of the week on Monday, following his goal and assist performance in Toronto's 2-1 victory over Houston on Saturday.

The 19-year-old scored his first goal on a penalty, picked up a pretty assist on a goal by captain Maicon Santos and created numerous chances for the Reds, who have been starved for offensive production.

Toronto selected Plata with the 49th pick of the MLS SuperDraft.

Former captain Dwyane De Rosario was the last TFC player to receive the award when he did it on multiple occasions last season.

Do you think Chad Johnson can still play at a high level in the NFL?
Yes, he is a talented receiver
No, he is too old to play
CFL might be a better option
