TORONTO - In the midst of the most gruelling early stretch of its season, Toronto FC gave two of its top performers the day off on Tuesday.
TFC will take on the Los Angeles Galaxy at BMO Field on Wednesday and D.C. United will be in town on Saturday.
Alen Stevanovic and Alan Gordon, who stood out in TFC’s 1-1 tie in San Jose last Saturday, were rested by head coach Aron Winter at training at Cherry Beach.
Both should suit up against Los Angeles.
“It was a tough game Saturday,” Winter told Torontofc.com.
“Some of the guys needed more treatment.”
Gordon has scored in two straight matches and would love to make it three against his former club.
“You know that I have that game circled on my calendar – along with Chivas USA – every year,” Gordon told mlssoccer.com recently.
Gordon has played well as a target man up front, matching his goal total from last year already.
Meanwhile, Stevanovic has looked very effective with the ball.
The understated Winter is not surprised at all about what Stevanovic — one of his key additions — has been able to show.
“He’s a very good soccer player,” Winter said matter-of-factly.
