Rumours continue to swirl around TFC that it is on the verge of signing Canadian international star Julian De Guzman as the club's first designated player.

Reports suggest the two sides have agreed to a deal and are waiting for approval from Major League Soccer.

Meanwhile, popular striker Danny Dichio is expected to announce at a news conference today that he is retiring as a player and will be joining the coaching staff of Toronto FC.

De Guzman, of Toronto, is expected to play for TFC for the remainder of this season plus three additional years.

The Canadian Soccer Association's male player of the year in 2008, De Guzman has been without a team since his contract expired with Deportivo La Coruna of the Spanish League.

Dichio, 34, has been a fan favourite with TFC and in his MLS career, 59 games, he has scored 14 goals including the first one in FC history.

TFC, which has six games remaining in its regular season schedule, sits fifth in the Eastern Conference and is a long shot to reach the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
