Toronto FC's problems on the back line were further underlined yesterday with the release of defender Marco Velez.
The move makes way for Lesly Fellinga, signed Wednesday from the Dutch club SC Heerenveen.
Velez's playing time had been cut back of late and, to rub salt in the wound, the Puerto Rican took a back seat when TFC played his old Islanders club team in the recent CONCACAF Champions League home and home series.
The club has made several attempts to bolster the back line, including a trade for MLS veteran Nick Garcia
"We wish Marco all the best in the future but we needed to make some changes going forward to the final stretch of the regular season," director of soccer Mo Johnston said.
Fellinga is a Haitian national.
TFC is home to D.C. United on Saturday.
