Toronto FC finally have signed free agent Ivory Coast international defender Olivier Tebily, who has been practicing with the team for nearly a month without a contract.

Tebily played in Europe for his entire career prior to signing with TFC. He spent five seasons in Ligue 2 in France before signing with first division Chateauroux (1998-99) and then moving to England to play for Sheffield United.

TFC coach John Carver knew of Tebily when the 32-year-old played with Glasgow Celtic and more recently in the League Championship with Birmingham City.

"We're adding another experienced player to the squad," Carver said in a team release yesterday. "He's had a good career especially at Celtic and Birmingham; he'll definitely improve the team with his versatility as he can play either in the centre or on the right in the back."

Tebily was African Footballer of the year runner-up in 2001.
