Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has been given a two-match suspension after poking Barcelona assistant coach Tito Vilanova in the eye during a Spanish Super Cup match in August.

Vilanova was banned for one game and both he and Mourinho received fines of $800.

The incident occurred at the end of the second leg of the Super Cup between the two sides as television cameras caught Mourinho jabbing his finger into the eye of Vilanova during a scuffle that involved players from both teams.

Vilanova responded by grabbing Mourinho around the head, with the suspensions only effective in the Spanish Super Cup, which occurs at the beginning of each season between the league champions and Copa del Rey winners from the previous campaign.
