Chelsea closes in on No. 2 in EPL table

Chelsea got three first-half goals to earn a victory at West Bromwich, 3-1, in English Premier League action on Saturday.

Peter Odemwingie actually opened the scoring for the home side before the Blues took over five minutes later.

Didier Drogba started the onslaught with his 12th goal of the season in the 22nd minute to make it 1-1 before Salomon Kalou made it 2-1 four minutes later. Frank Lampard added a third goal just before the break to close out the scoring as neither team was able to find the back of the net the entire second half.

Chelsea strengthens its spot at No. 3 in the EPL table with the victory while also moving within a point of idle Arsenal at No. 2. West Brom, on the other hand, falls out of the top 10 with the loss.

Birmingham 2, Sunderland 0

Birmingham, England - Birmingham moved five points clear of the drop zone with a 2-0 victory over SUnderland in EPL action on Saturday.

Sebastian Larsson and Craig Gardner scored on each side of the half to lead their club to victory.

Wigan 3, Blackpool 1

Blackpool, England - Wigan jumped out of the relegation zone with a 3-1 win at Blackpool on Saturday in EPL action.

First-half goals by Hugo Rodallega and Charles N'Zogbia gave Wigan the advantage before a Neil Eardley own goal in the 66th made it 3-0. DJ Campbell pulled one back seven minutes from time, but it was too little, too late for the home side.

With the loss Blackpool falls into the drop zone, a point behind Wigan in the table.

Everton 2, Blackburn 0

Liverpool, England - Everton earned the full points with a 2-0 victory over Blackburn in EPL action on Saturday.

Leon Osman and Leighton Baines scored second-half goals to pace the offense.

With the loss, Blackburn falls to within two points of the drop zone, while Everton moves within six of the top five.

Aston Villa 2, West Ham 1

London, England - Gabriel Agbonlahor scored a 90th minute winner to propel Aston Villa to a 2-1 victory vs. West Ham at Upton Park in EPL action on Saturday.

The Aston Villa comeback started after Robbie Keane gave the Hammers the advantage with a second-minute goal. Darren Bent equalized nine minutes before the break before Agbonlahor's winner in the closing seconds.

The win propels Aston Villa into the top 10, while West Ham falls to second- from-the-bottom, two points from safety.
