ZURICH -- Portugal can't stop making news at Euro 2008.

First it was with its strong play. Then it was with the ongoing saga of Cristiano Ronaldo and his potential move to Real Madrid from Manchester United. Then Wednesday, the big news broke. Portuguese coach Luiz Felipe Scolari will take over Chelsea at the end of the tournament.

Scolari hasn't spoken yet. At a news conference yesterday, two players appeared. Scolari will have to appear at a news conference today, when he no doubt will be grilled about what is going on.

It will be interesting to see how he deals with it considering the Portuguese football association does not want Ronaldo to talk about it.

There was great anger that Chelsea choose to announce the appointment during the tournament. Scolari's want list supposedly includes Liverpool's Fernando Torres, Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery, AC Milan forward Kaka and Portuguese midfielder Deco.

GERMANY HAS INJURY WOES

Germany forward Lukas Podolski (left ankle injury) and may not be ready to play against Austria on Monday.

Podolski has scored all three of Germany's goals in this tournament. Even though the Germans are heavy favourites against Austria, the Austrians will do whatever they can to shock the Germans. Germany needs at least a tie to assure itself of moving on.

VILLA'S STOCK ON RISE

David Villa, who scored a hat-trick for Spain in its 4-1 win against Russia, likely is headed to a high-paying club side when this tournament is over. Valencia will cash in on its player and will earn more money the better he plays at Euro 2008. English Premier League teams Chelsea and Arsenal are interested as are Spanish sides Real Madrid and Barcelona.

KUHN'S WIFE RECOVERING

Switzerland coach Koebi Kuhn's wife has come out of a nine-day coma. Kuhn's Swiss side was knocked out of Euro 2008 by Turkey on Wednesday. Alice Kuhn was rushed to hospital after collapsing at the couple's home on June 2.
