Tony Fonseca has been selected as technical director of the Canadian Soccer Association, it was announced Tuesday.

Fonseca will be responsible for the management and direction of the technical growth of soccer in Canada, the CSA said. His duties will include coach education, long-term player development and elite player development.

A former Portuguese international, Fonseca moved to Canada in 1999 to play for the Vancouver 86ers before becoming a coach in 2000. He has worked with the national program since 2007 as a coach.
