Canadian women's soccer team captain Christine Sinclair and coach John Herdman are among the nominees for FIFA year-end awards.

Sinclair is among the 10 nominees for the FIFA women's player of the year award while Herdman is among the 10 finalists for the world coach of the year for women's soccer.

Sinclair, a six-time nominee for the FIFA award, captained the Canadian team to the bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, scoring six times in the tournament. In 22 games during 2012, Sinclair had 23 goals to move up to third on the world career scoring list, with 143 tallies.

The 29-year-old from Burnaby, B.C., was recently suspended by FIFA for four games for criticizing the officiating following Canada's loss to the U.S. in the Olympic semifinals.

Herdman, a 37-year-old from Consett, England, went 14-7-1 in 22 games at Canada's helm this year. He set the Canadian record for most wins in a year.

The 10 nominees in each category will be whittled down to three finalists prior to the awards ceremony. Winners will be announced Jan. 7 during the FIFA Ballon d'Or Gala in Zurich, Switzerland.
