Injuries force Lang out
By QMI Agency

Kara Lang confirmed Wednesday that she was retiring from soccer.

Lang, 24, was a two-time FIFA World Cup player, an Olympian and a CONCACAF champion. She also won a W-League championship with Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

"I have always held myself to a very high standard -- as it is demanded at the international level. Regrettably, I am physically incapable of maintaining that standard (because of knee injuries) and fulfilling my role as a player," Lang said at a news conference in Oakville, Ont., where she grew up.

Lang, who was born in Calgary, spent nine years with the national team, having made her debut at age 15 in 2002 at the Algarve Cup in Portugal. Her last international appearance was Nov. 5, 2010 at the CONCACAF Women's World Cup qualifier in Cancún, Mexico.
