There are enough Vancouver Whitecaps on Canada's Women's World Cup team to fill head coach Even Pellerud's starting lineup.

The 21-player roster for next month's tournament in China was unveiled yesterday in West Vancouver. It includes 11 members of the 2006 W-League champions.

Burnaby striker Christine Sinclair, Canadian soccer's all-time scoring queen with 81 goals, leads the contingent of 'Caps. She'll likely play alongside Kara Lang. Candace Chapman, Katie Thorlakson, Brittany Timko and Andrea Neil offer midfield depth while Martina Franko and Randee Hermus anchor the back line.

Defender/midfielder Sophie Schmidt and forward Jodi-Anne Robinson were late additions. Whitecaps goalkeeper Erin McLeod is jockeying with Maple Ridge's Karina LeBlanc for the starting job.

Forward Amy Vermeulen and Whitecaps defender Sasha Andrews were notable cuts from the team, which has trained full-time in Vancouver since January. Canada's best finish was fourth place in 2003.

"In 2003, we came in with a very naive, young team, didn't have a lot of World Cup experience and exceeded all our expectations," Neil said. "This time, there's this quiet confidence that we can accomplish more."

Canada plays Japan in an Aug. 30 Tokyo friendly before a Singapore training camp. Group C action begins Sept. 12 in Hangzhou, China, against Norway. Canada also faces Australia and Ghana. The final is Sept. 30 in Shanghai.

Canada is making its fourth Women's World Cup appearance and first without veteran Charmaine Hooper. She was one of three players kicked off the team after a 2006 dispute with Pellerud.
