The deal is done.

The Vancouver Whitecaps called a news conference this afternoon to announce a "major exhibition game." It's expected they will confirm their B.C. Place Stadium match against superstar David Beckham and Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy.

Early October has been rumoured for the friendly. It could be the biggest soccer event under the dome since more than 58,000 saw Tulsa Roughnecks beat Toronto Blizzard in 1983's NASL championship.

Ex-England captain Beckham signed a five-year, $250-million US contract in January with L.A. Thousands of B.C. fans were among almost 67,000 at Seattle's Qwest Field on Aug. 9, 2006 when the 31-year-old midfielder played in Real Madrid's 1-1 tie with MLS' D.C. United.

The Whitecaps, the USL's 2006 First Division champions, open their 2007 regular season on Saturday when Seattle Sounders visit Swangard Stadium.
