Aging Brazilian superstar Romario and Miami FC will make an encore appearance at Swangard Stadium on Friday.

Fourth-place Whitecaps, who were ending the regular season last night against the Atlanta Silverbacks after 24 hours' deadline, will host fifth-place Miami FC Friday to begin the United Soccer League's First Division playoffs. Whitecaps will travel to Florida for a Sunday match in the two-game, total-goals series.

Normally, the higher-seeded team would opt to travel for game one and host the second match and the overtime or shootout tiebreaker, if necessary. In this case, Whitecaps are forcing Miami to travel to both games, hoping the expansion team is jet-lagged on both ends.

The teams tied 2-2 on June 9 at Swangard, but Whitecaps edged Miami 3-2 on Aug. 6 at Tropical Park.

Miami and Puerto Rico Islanders clinched playoff spots when they drew 1-1 yesterday. Puerto Rico meets third place Charleston Battery, which tied second-place Rochester Raging Rhinos 0-0, in the other first round series. Rochester and first-place Montreal Impact have a first round bye.

Eduardo Sebrango, Joey Gjertsen and David Testo scored Vancouver's goals in a 3-2 win over the visiting Seattle Sounders on Friday. The defending league champions failed to make the playoffs.
