Minnesota Thunder took advantage of Vancouver Whitecaps' defensive mistakes when they scored twice in a three-minute span for a 2-2 Saturday night tie.

"We've got to concentrate for 90 minutes," said Joey Gjertsen, who gave Vancouver a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute and assisted Steve Kindel's 59th minute goal.

Eleventh-place Minnesota's Nathan Knox ended Tony Caig's shutout bid in the 67th minute. Ansu Toure pulled the Thunder even in the 69th.

"The back four should work in unison and twice we were left exposed with only one player to defend," said Whitecaps' head coach Bob Lilley.

Striker Jason Jordan made his comeback from a nagging turf toe injury as an 85th minute substitute before 4,889 fans. It was his first Whitecaps' appearance since May 22.

Third-place Whitecaps need five points in their final three regular season games to clinch a playoff spot. Charleston Battery visits Thursday at 7 p.m.
