Mike Franks may play with whitecaps of the small-w variety next month.
The veteran goalkeeper has been named to Canada's roster for the first CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship Sept. 13-17 in Costa Rica.
Franks was cut from the Vancouver Whitecaps during training camp earlier this year in a dispute with head coach Bob Lilley. Franks had been unable to attend off-season training sessions because of work in the booming construction industry.
Franks isn't the only ex-Whitecap goalkeeper on the roster. Head coach Ross Ongaro has also chosen Jim Larkin for the regional tournament.
Jamaica, Mexico and the United States join Canada and Costa Rica to compete for the two berths in November's Beach Soccer World Cup in Rio de Janeiro.
