Fancy meeting you here.

When the W-League season began at Swangard Stadium on May 13 for the Vancouver Whitecaps and Seattle Sounders Saints, the only thing certain was the Whitecaps would host North America's women's soccer club championship on B.C. Day Weekend.

Nobody knew the Whitecaps would need a fifth consecutive win over Seattle so they could play in the final.

"We've always had a challenge with Seattle," said Whitecaps' captain Andrea Neil.

"They're a very accomplished side, we've had some great times as a club against Seattle, but also [some] not-too-bright moments."

The 2004 W-League champion Whitecaps kickoff against Seattle, 2006's Western conference champion, at 7:30 p.m. tonight. Eastern conference champion Ottawa Fury and Central conference champion Charlotte Eagles meet in an earlier game at 5 p.m. to decide Sunday's title match opponent for Vancouver or Seattle. Action is live on Fox Soccer Channel.

The final four includes four players named yesterday to the W-League all-star team:

Whitecap Christine Sinclair, Seattle's Michelle French, Ottawa's Diana Matheson and Charlotte's Ashley Swinehart. Neil, Sinclair, Tiffeny Milbrett and goalkeeper Erin McLeod were the Vancouver players voted to the Western conference all-stars. Meanwhile, Whitecaps' regulars Sophie Schmidt, Emily Zurrer, Jodi-Ann Robinson and Rheanne Sleiman were chosen to Canada's 21-player roster for the Aug. 17-Sept. 3 FIFA Under-20 Women's World Championship in Russia. China, Finland and Nigeria are Canada's opening round opponents.
