Soccer in Baron's blood
By ROB LONGLEY -- Toronto Sun

Before he made his name as a sports writer and later the first sports editor of the Toronto Sun, George Gross got his kicks from writing, playing and managing soccer.

The Baron, as the Sun's corporate sports editor is affectionately known, was well known as local fixture in the sport.

Gross, who last night was inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame and Museum, played for Pannonia in the Toronto Senior Soccer League. In the 1950s, he published a weekly soccer paper before becoming general manager of the Toronto City Soccer Club of the Eastern Canada Professional League.

Last night's honour is the latest induction for Gross who is also enshrined in a number of halls including Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and the Hockey Hall of Fame.
