'Stangs remain winless on road
First-half goals all Impact needs
By CAMERON MAXWELL -- Calgary Sun

The Calgary Mustangs' road woes continued last night in Montreal.

A strong first half by the Montreal Impact proved too much for the struggling 'Stangs, who lost 2-0 at Claude Robillard Stadium to wrap up a five-game road trip.

Montreal tallied twice in the opening 45 minutes. That was all the A-league club would need to beat the Mustangs, who failed to win on their lengthy sojourn away from McMahon Stadium.

Andrew Olivieri, making his A-League debut in goal, earned the shutout for Montreal, while Eduardo Sebrango (23rd minute) and Ze Roberto (44th) provided the goals.

"Montreal clearly dominated the first half. In the second half, we evened the game a little bit more and created some chances," said Mustangs head coach Thomas Niendorf, whose team is winless on the road this season (0-10-0).

"They came out really strong and immediately started putting the pressure on us.

"In the second half, we started to come forward a bit more and had a couple of chances where one time the goalie made a good save and the other time we missed the target."

There haven't been a whole lot of bull's-eyes this season. It was the seventh time the 'Stangs have been shut out as their record falls to 2-12-3. The Impact improves to 11-4-4.

The 'Stangs look to snap their five-game losing streak Sunday, when they host the Toronto Lynx at McMahon Stadium (2 p.m.).

USL FLIES AVIATORS: The Edmonton A-League soccer team will be run by the United Soccer Leagues for the remainder of the season.

Earlier this week, owners returned the franchise to the USL, ending the team's one-year run after shareholders of Edmonton Professional Soccer Ltd. concluded professional soccer in the city was not financially viable. The USL has entered into a short-term agreement to manage the club under the name Edmonton FC, which will now play its remaining home games at 3,000-seat Foote Field instead of Commonwealth Stadium.
