The man who led Canada to an impressive outcome at the London Olympics last summer will stay on as head coach of the women's national soccer team through two more Olympics.

John Herman, who coached Canada to bronze in London, had his contract extended Thursday by the Canadian Soccer Association.

"We continue to believe that John has the leadership and vision to develop the clear pathway this country needs to grow women’s football in addition to world-class performances on the pitch," CSA general secretary Peter Montopoli said.

Herman, a 38-year-old from Consett, England, was originally penciled in as national coach through the Rio Olympics in 2016. Thursday's announcement guarantees he'll coach the team in the 2020 Games, too.
