The Canadian men's under-17 team is one win away from a berth in the U17 World Cup after earning a 1-1 draw with Costa Rica during the CONCACAF qualifying tournament in Panama.

Hanson Boakai's goal from long range lifted Canada to the tie, which sent the team into the quarterfinals Saturday against Jamaica. A win over Jamaica would send Canada to the World Cup in the United Arab Emirates in October.

"I knew it was dangerous to come into this game playing for a result so I asked the boys to focus on their performance," Canadian coach Sean Fleming said.

Canada finished atop Group B with a 1-0-1 record after opening the tournament with a 2-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago.
