By Sports Network
LONDON - England defender John Terry will miss the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Ukraine on Tuesday with an ankle injury, it was revealed Sunday. Terry, 31, was injured Friday in a 5-0 win over Moldova in the opening match in Group H of Euro qualifying. The English Football Association said in a statement that "John Terry will not be available for the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine. ... and has returned to his club (Chelsea)." England was already without Andy Carroll, Adam Johnson, and Wayne Rooney, and defender Ashley Cole was also injured Friday and will be out against Ukraine. Ukraine did not play Friday, when Poland tied Montenegro, 2-2, in the other match in Group H. Terry has played 78 times for England, but no timetable was announced for how long he would be sidelined. England will resume qualifying Oct. 12 against San Marino. |
