Canadian women top Italy
By QMI Agency

Robyn Gayle scored in injury time to lift the Canadian women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Italy Thursday at GSP Stadium in Nicosia, Cyprus.

The win keeps Canada, the two-time defending tournament champions, atop its group at the 12-team Cyprus Cup.

Christine Sinclair had the other goal for Canada (2-0-0 in the tourney). It was the 131st goal of her international career, moving her past American Kristine Lilly into third place on the all-time scoring list.

Sandy Iannella replied for the Italians, netting the equalizer early in the second half.

Canada closes out group play in the tournament Sunday against the Netherlands. A tie would guarantee Canada a shot at its third straight Cyprus Cup title.
