Toronto FC announced Tuesday the club acquired FC Dallas defender Jeremy Hall for a second round MLS pick in 2013.

“We’re happy to add (Hall) to our club,” head coach Aron Winter said. “He is a solid defender with excellent MLS experience.”

The 23-year-old former US youth international made 21 league appearances last season between FC Dallas and the Portland Timbers.

He made 37 appearances for New York over two seasons before being traded to Portland last year.

“Defence is one of the areas that we want to address this offseason and acquiring Jeremy is a positive step forward for our club.”

After allowing an MLS-worst 59 goals last season, the move helps shore up a TFC defence that was light in depth and riddled with injuries in 2011.

Toronto becomes the fourth club Hall has played for in just over a year.

TFC OPENER ANNOUNCED

Major League Soccer announced Tuesday the Reds will play their first home match of the 2012 MLS season the fourth weekend in March.

Toronto’s first home game will come two weeks before when TFC hosts the LA Galaxy in the opening leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals.

A west coast heavy opening day schedule sees the Colorado Rapids, DC United, Galaxy, San Jose Earthquakes, Vancouver Whitecaps and Seattle Sounders kick-off the regular season on March 10.

The expansion Montreal Impact will open its 2012 home campaign March 18 at Olympic Stadium.

MLS NOTES

Sporting KC announced Tuesday it acquired Brazilian Paulo Nagamura from Chivas for a first-round pick in 2012. Before playing five seasons with the Goats, the midfielder saw time in LA and had a brief stint with TFC … DC United acquired Robbie Russell from Real Salt Lake for a third-round 2013 MLS pick. The towering defender joins the Black and Red following four seasons in the Rockies.
