Ahead of its 2012 entrance into Major League Soccer, the Montreal Impact selected 10 unprotected players from around MLS.
Naming a mix of experience and youth, head coach Jesse Marsch sent shockwaves around the league by taking former U.S. international and Houston Dynamo forward Brian Ching with his first pick.
Close to retirement and hoping to play his final season in Texas, Ching said earlier this week he’d retire before moving north.
“I have nothing against (Marsch), but I wouldn’t’ play for him,” Ching told the Houston Chronicle.
Montreal will likely look to move Ching’s rights back to Houston for a player of value or cash in the coming weeks.
Justin Mapp (PHI) and Bobby Burling (SJ) complete Montreal’s list of most notable selections while James Riley’s (SEA) rights were traded to Chivas USA in return for forward Justin Braun (CHV).
