WIGAN, ENGLAND - The Football Association confirmed on Monday that it has charged Wigan defender Antolin Alcaraz for spitting at an opponent during his team's 3-1 loss to Wolverhampton on Sunday.
The incident was not spotted by referee Lee Probert during the match, but television replays caught Alcaraz spitting at Wolves' Richard Stearman.
A statement from the FA read: "Wigan Athletic's Antolin Alcaraz has today [Monday] been charged by the FA for spitting at an opponent.
"The incident, which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video, relates to his side's game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
"The player has until Nov. 8, 2011, to respond to the charge."
Alcaraz has started five games in the league for the Latics this season, but he will face a three-match suspension should he be found guilty of the charge.
