Tottenham's EPL opener postponed due to riots
By SPORTS NETWORK

LONDON, ENGLAND - Tottenham's English Premier League opener scheduled for Saturday against Everton was postponed Thursday due to riots in England that caused extensive damage in north London.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said "it's been a crime scene all week" in the area of White Hart Lane, Tottenham's home stadium.

"Following ongoing discussions with the necessary authorities regarding this weekend's Premier League home match against Everton, it has now been confirmed that this fixture will be postponed due to safety concerns," Tottenham posted on its website.

London-based clubs Fulham and QPR are still scheduled to play this weekend and the other clubs based in the city, Arsenal and Chelsea, are on the road.

No makeup date for the Tottenham-Everton match was announced.
