Juve signs striker Toni
By Sports Network
TURIN, Italy -- Juventus signed former Italian striker Luca Toni on a free transfer from Genoa on Friday.
Toni, 33, joins Juve on an 18-month deal. He scored 16 goals in 47 matches for Italy and was a member of the 2006 World Cup team. He has just three goals for Genoa this season.
He has also played for Roma, Fiorentina, Palermo, Brescia and others in Italy, but joins one of the league's top three clubs -- AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juve -- for the first time. He also played at Bayern from 2007-2010.
Toni will help Juventus compensate for the loss of Fabio Quagliarella, who was ruled out for the season Friday with an ACL injury.
Juve, which went down to 10 men early against Parma, lost just its third match of the season and is fifth in Serie A, eight points behind leaders AC Milan.
Juventus visits Napoli on Sunday.
