SUNDERLAND, England -- Sunderland has lost defensive duo Titus Bramble and Michael Turner until 2011 because of knee injuries.

Bramble, who has started 12 of Sunderland's 14 league games this season, had surgery on Thursday to repair damaged cartilage in his knee, and he is expected to be out at least six weeks.

Turner also damaged knee ligaments in the Black Cats' 2-2 draw with Everton on Monday when he smacked his knee against the post of the goal.

The 27-year-old has started 10 games for manager Steve Bruce in the league, and he is expected to have surgery as well which could rule him out for longer than one month.

Fellow center back John Mensah is out for the next two weeks with a shoulder injury as well, meaning Bruce will have to make do with Anton Ferdinand, Nedum Onuoha and Paulo Da Silva in the middle of the back line.
