GLASGOW, Scotland -- Rangers and U.S. midfielder Maurice Edu injured his left knee on Wednesday in a 3-0 loss to Hibernian in the Scottish Premier League and was stretchered off the field.

Edu was injured during a tackle from Hibs' John Rankin late in the first half, and the extent of the injury should be known by Friday at the latest. Edu hurt the same knee in May 2009 and needed surgery that sidelined him seven months.

The 24-year-old, who has also played central defense for the U.S., has been a regular starter for Rangers, appearing in all 12 games with 10 starts.

"Until we get a look at him ..., we won't know for sure if there is any major damage or not," Rangers manager Walter Smith said Wednesday.
