BARCELONA, Spain -- Barcelona midfielder Xavi will not be fit in time to take part in Saturday's match against La Liga leaders Valencia, it was announced on Wednesday.

The Spanish playmaker has been out because of an Achilles tendon problem and he failed to take part in Spain's Euro 2012 qualifiers with Lithuania and Scotland during the international break.

The 30-year-old Xavi was hoping to be fit for the match on Saturday, but he will likely have to wait until next week's Champions League contest with FC Copenhagen to return to the lineup.

Meanwhile, the club could also be without striker David Villa for Saturday's match after he sustained a knee injury in Tuesday's 3-2 win over Scotland while playing for Spain.

Villa scored his 45th goal for the national team during the match, allowing him to pass Real Madrid's Raul on the all-time leading scorers list.
