SANDY, UT - Alvaro Saborio converted a penalty kick in first- half stoppage time and Real Salt Lake beat 10-man Chicago, 1-0, on Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium to extend its home unbeaten streak to 23 games, a new Major League Soccer record.

Real broke the record previously set by the Columbus Crew in 2008-09 and moved level with Los Angeles Galaxy, who play D.C. United on Saturday night, for the most points in MLS.

Saborio converted the penalty into the left side after a second yellow card to Chicago's Wilman Conde, and Real (13-4-8) seemed content with a one-goal win.

Chicago (6-9-8) had its winless streak extended to five matches, as RSL goalie Nick Rimando posted his 12th shutout of the season without making a save.

The Fire's Collins John had the first good chance of the match in the 22nd and hit the crossbar, then Real's Robbie Findley wasted a breakaway when he lifted a shot over the bar in the 24th.

Conde handed Real the lone goal of the match late in the first half for a foul on Ned Grabavoy in the area. The foul was initially given to the wrong player, but Conde was later correctly sent off for his second offense.

After the delay, Saborio drilled the penalty into the left side past a diving Fire goalie Sean Johnson for his ninth goal of the season.

Real's Paulo Araujo hit the right post from 18 yards in the 77th minute, but that was the best scoring chance for either side in the half. Will Johnson had a chance to seal Real's win in the final 10 minutes, but he passed up a shot and his pass rolled by two teammates in front of the goal.

Chicago failed to take advantage late in the match to steal an equalizer and will try to bounce back Sept. 25 when it hosts Seattle Sounders FC. Real hosts the Colorado Rapids on Sept. 25 in its next MLS match.
