New York - Major League Soccer will expand its regular- season schedule from 30 to 34 matches in 2011, when the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps FC join the league.
The 2011 season will start on March 19, 2011 and the 34 matches will be played in the span of 32 weeks, with the season set to end on October 22. There will be no breaks for international competitions.
MLS will reveal more details on the 2011 season, including the playoff format, date for the MLS Cup and the format for the regular-season schedule at a later date.
The league currently includes 16 teams, with each team playing each other two times in the regular season.
