Ivory Coast manager steps down
By Sports Network

ABIDJAN, IVORY COAST - Sven-Goran Eriksson has decided not to continue as manager of Ivory Coast after he failed to come to terms on a financial agreement with the country’s soccer federation.

Eriksson took over for Vahid Halilhodzic in March, but he was unable to guide Ivory Coast past the group stage in the World Cup after loses to Brazil and Portugal in the group stage.

“Indeed, Eriksson will not be the next coach of the Elephants,” vice president of the federation Sory Diabate said in a statement on the federation’s website. “He was our top choice but the discussions broke down.”

“The problem arose over financial considerations, despite good will on both sides.”

Diabate also said that the federation was actively in discussions with other candidates, and that he was hopeful that a new coach would be in place in the next few days.

Do you think Chad Johnson can still play at a high level in the NFL?
Yes, he is a talented receiver
No, he is too old to play
CFL might be a better option
