U.S. soccer star Landon Donovan has told of his relief after finding out he has not fathered a lovechild.

The U.S. World Cup player became the latest star caught up in a paternity scandal after a British woman alleged last month that he fathered her baby.

Donovan admitted it was a "possibility" he was the child's dad and insisted he would provide "appropriate support" if paternity was proved.

But the soccer player has now announced the child is not his, telling E! Online, "I know now that I will not be a dad any time soon, which is good news for me."

Donovan is currently estranged from his wife, actress Bianca Kajlich.
