Whitecaps caught in goal drought

BURNABY, B.C. - The Vancouver Whitecaps played their third scoreless tie of 2010 Saturday against the visiting Montreal Impact.

Defender Luca Bellisomo had Vancouverís best chance of the match. Bellisomo headed the ball off the Montreal post in the 62nd minute on a Ricardo Sanchez corner kick.

Goalkeeper Jay Nolly had his fourth shutout of the season for the 2-2-2 Whitecaps. Vancouver is winless since April 24. Its last goal was April 29 in a 2-1 loss to the Portland Timbers.

Montreal, which beat Vancouver for the United Soccer Leaguesí First Division title in 2009, is 29-13-7 all-time against the Whitecaps. The teams play three more league matches in 2010 before the Whitecaps move to Major League Soccer in 2011. Montreal will join them in 2012.

Defender Takashi Hirano made his first appearance of 2010 for the Caps after recovering from off-season knee surgery.

The Whitecaps host Toronto FC on Wednesday in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship series.
