TORONTO - Toronto FC has traded Canadian international midfielder Kevin Harmse to Chivas USA. The MLS team will receive allocation money in exchange

"Kevin requested a move back to the U.S.," Mo Johnston, Toronto's director of soccer, said in a statement. "We tried very hard to hang on to him, but this move is what's best for Kevin right now."

Johnston continues to remake Toronto's roster. He recently signed Canadian forward Ali Gerba and released English midfielder Rohan Ricketts.

Harmse, who can also play as a defender, has been called up by Canada for the Gold Cup next month. He has won nine caps for Canada.

Harmse, 24, played 30 games - including 20 starts - for Toronto since coming from the Los Angeles Galaxy in February 2008.

Prior to the Galaxy, Harmse spent the 2006 season in Europe with FC Nitra of the Slovakian Corgon Liga. The Vancouver native played for his hometown Whitecaps of the USL in 2004 and 2005 after a stint with Tromso in Norway.
