They are at the dotted line.

Will Inter Milan sign?

Will the Italian powerhouse club land in Canada -- specifically Edmonton -- next summer?

"They haven't signed off on it yet," Alberta Soccer Association executive director Salvi Cammarata said yesterday.

"We're into very detailed negotiations with Inter Milan. Our mandate is to bring an international team to Edmonton in the summer to celebrate 100 years of soccer in the province.

"That would be the marquee event of the celebration.

"We've signed off on the monetary end and we've even signed off on details like specific playing time for certain players."

Popular European clubs --the Manchester Uniteds, the Real Madrids, Bayern Munich, Celtic -- often tour in the summer as part of promoting the sport in soccer-developing areas.

And to sell a few jerseys.

"What's happening is (Inter) is going to be in Boston at the end of a (U.S.) tour," Cammarata said.

"They have scheduled some games in China in August, so instead of them flying back across the globe, we're trying to convince them to stop in Edmonton and Vancouver. And then they can fly to China."

Cammarata said there has been contact with other clubs.

"What I can tell you is that (ASA's goal was) a Top-10 European club. Inter Milan is one of the top-ranked European clubs.

"They're leading Italy's Serie A comfortably and they are in the last rounds of the Champions League.

"And they have a bunch of (international) superstars."

Maybe not an easy thing for Cammarata to say being an admitted fan of AC Milan, Inter's fierce cross-city rivals.

"It's quite an exciting thing for us, because we're just about there," said Cammarata.
