Considering all the greats produced by Argentina, the fact Sergio Aguero was the youngest player in the county's history to play in the first division says a lot.

Aguero, 19, made his first division debut for Independiente at 15 years, 35 days. He broke the previous record held by Diego Maradona by over 11 months.

Argentina, the defending champions and five-time winners of the event, look to Aguero to lead another generation of Argentine stars to a world title.

Currently playing in Spain for Atletico Madrid, Aguero's already suited up with Argentina's senior side three times.

There was the possibility he could be called up to the national team for the Copa America currently taking place in Venezuela.

However, Aguero was left off the side competing for the South American championship and instead came to Canada to compete in the Under-20 World Cup.

"Some people might think that I would be sad because I was not chosen to play at the Copa America," Aguero said. "But the truth is that I am thrilled be here in Canada. There is a lot of prestige to this competition and I have a lot to prove."

Aguero is considered to be a world-class striker with great speed, plenty of skill and a lethal ability to put the ball in the back of the net.

He had 23 goals in 53 appearances with Independiente. Since transferring to Atletico, Aguero has six goals in 36 games, including the tying goal in an away match against Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

At the World Cup, Argentina were drawn in a group with the Czech Republic, Panama and North Korea. Argentina qualified for the tournament by going unbeaten at the South American qualifying tournament earlier this year finishing second behind Brazil.
