North Korea needs help now

OTTAWA -- They collapsed to the Frank Clair Stadium turf at the final whistle, exhaustion taking its final collective toll.

And when the gritty band of North Koreans took one last look at the scoreboard, they could only shake their heads in disbelief.

Somehow, someway, the Argentines and their valiant goalkeeper, Sergio Romero, kept their end of the scoresheet clean and denied the Koreans a much-deserved point in a wildly entertaining FIFA U-20 World Cup match last night.

Surely, the Asian champions, who fired everything at the indomitable Romero in the final 15 minutes, deserved a better fate than a 1-0 loss, which could spell an early end to their tournament.

The Czech Republic's 2-1 victory yesterday over Panama in Montreal relegated the North Koreans to third spot in Group E.

With only two points from a pair of ties, they'll need help to reach the second round.
