Vancouver Whitecaps are on top of the United Soccer Leagues' First Division and so is striker Eduardo Sebrango.

The 33-year-old was named player of the week yesterday and leads the circuit with six goals in seven games. He scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of Saturday's 3-1 win over California Victory in San Francisco and came off the bench Sunday to score an 82nd minute insurance marker against the visiting Rochester Raging Rhinos.

"I should play the lottery, maybe I'll win some money," he joked. "I'm scoring, taking my opportunities and I can't ask for more."

Adrian Cann scored the other goal in San Francisco. Singles by Jay Alberts and Joey Gjertsen preceded Sebrango on Sunday. Goalkeeper Tony Caig got both wins.

"We set up the weekend to get six points," said head coach Bob Lilley. "We didn't want to settle for a win and a draw or a couple of draws."

League champion Whitecaps (5-0-2) lead Montreal Impact and Atlanta Silverbacks by six points. It's Vancouver's best start since 1993.

Expansion Carolina RailHawks visit on Friday.

- Meanwhile, W-League champion Whitecaps' women beat Seattle Crossfire Sounders 2-1 on Sunday. Sophie Schmidt and Jodi-Ann Robinson had first-half goals after rookie goalkeeper Jaclyn Dunnett surrendered one to Seattle's Erin Redwine.

"We do have a lot of work to do defensively," said Whitecaps' head coach Bob Birarda. "It's just good to get the win in first."
