Lady Lynx bury Sudbury

TORONTO (CP) - The Toronto Lady Lynx won its seventh game this season routing the Sudbury Canadians 9-0 Saturday night.

Toronto took the lead two minutes early in the match on a goal by Melissa Bigg.

Bigg picked up a loose ball just in front of Sudbury's goal and lofted the ball into the roof of the goal past Sudbury goalkeeper Katie McNamara.

The lead increased to 2-0 on a Sudbury own goal two minutes before the half.

Toronto dominated play throughout the match outshooting Sudbury 21-2 in the first half alone, and 38-4 overall, and could have led by more after the first half if not for the outstanding play of Sudbury goalkeeper Katie McNamara, who made seven stops in the first half.

Toronto doubled its lead in the 60th minute on two quick goals by Sylvia Forbes, her 11th and 12th of the season. The Lady Lynx increased its lead to 5-0 before Forbes recorded a hat trick with her third goal in the 72nd minute.

Three more goals over a 10-minute span, including Forbes' fourth of the game, made the score 9-0.

The nine goal difference set a team record, surpassing the 7-0 score set in a game last season and matched in Toronto's first match this season.

In 11 games, Toronto has scored 36 goals this season, while conceding only three.

With the win, Toronto improves to 7-1-3 and sits in first place in the W-League's Eastern Conference - Northern Division.
