Steve Omischl is the fellow in yellow at this weekend's freestyle skiing Grand Prix.

Next February, the Kelowna-based aerialist wants to be a 31-year-old with Olympic gold.

North Bay, Ont.-born Omischl is the reigning world cup champion and the man to beat at the Cypress Mountain test event for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

"Leading the tour right now is a boost of confidence for myself," Omischl said. "Wearing the yellow leader's bib, it's familiar territory. A lot of guys are gunning for me, but at the end of the day I have to do my job."

Doing his job on the West Vancouver slope might involve a healthy dose of patience. Fog canceled the finals at last year's Cypress tour stop, so Omischl was awarded gold based on his qualifying result.

"The weather, it can change any time here," he said. "Last year was tough. We just have to treat it one day at a time and not get too far ahead with the forecast."

Friday's schedule includes ski cross finals (1 p.m. - 2 p.m.) and aerials finals (7:50 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.) Moguls are Saturday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets, including round-trip bus from Park Royal Shopping Centre, are $10 at the West Vancouver Aquatic Centre at 21st and Marine Drive.
