Custom fit gives riders Superfeet

Picture CF-18s flying in perfect formation as they bank from one turn to the next.

Now picture your skis or snowboard doing the same thing.

All you need is a custom-fitted footbed --custom-made insoles -- for your skis or snowboard called Superfeet.

Pro boot fitter Peter Lane of Ski Cellar Snowboard's 17 Ave. S.W. store says your feet are the connection between your body and the mountain.

"The human foot has 26 bones, 19 muscles, 33 joints and 122 ligaments and -- like fingerprints and snowflakes -- no two feet are alike," said Lane.

"Custom-made insoles keep feet warm by improving circulation and they help prevent your foot from slipping around. They can do more to improve the performance of skiers and boarders than an entire season of practice on the slopes."

Power, quickness and precision are the goal of every skier and boarder when carving turns at their favorite slope.

To execute the perfect carving technique the answer might be as simple as a well-crafted custom footbed.

The Superfeet footbeds range from relatively inexpensive ($45) cut-and-trim models to the heat-and-vacuum-fit custom versions of up to $200.

The vacuum-fitted Superfeet are heated, vacuum-moulded and massaged to fit the foot -- a 25-minute process that will be done right in the store upon purchase.

Still a lot cheaper than a CF-18. But on the hill you'll feel like you can go just as fast.
