TORONTO - The Town of Milton has approved construction of a velodrome for the 2015 Pan Am Games.

The velodrome, a race track for cyclists, will also feature an infield capable of supporting other sports such as basketball, volleyball or badminton. It is to be built at the Milton Education Village, in the Britannia-Tremaine Rds area.

We would like to thank the Town of Milton for making this velodrome a reality, Ian Troop, CEO of the Toronto 2015 Games Organizing Committee, said Tuesday.

This is the result of sound deliberation and an appreciation for the potential associated with a permanent velodrome.

The Games are expected to draw 10,000 athletes and feature 48 sports in 17 municipalities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe area.

This is a great day for cycling and amateur sport in Canada, Olympian Curt Harnett said.

This will result in a world-class facility that will make Milton a cycling hub for the surrounding community, the province and eastern Canada.
