Canadian wakeboarder Aaron Rathy has been forced to return his Pan Am Games silver medal after testing positive for the stimulant methylhexaneamine.
Rathy, of Nanaimo, B.C., accepted responsibility for his disqualification from the Games, the Canadian Olympic Committee said Friday.
"I'd like to apologize to the Canadian Olympic Committee and coaching staff, I am deeply sorry, and was completely unaware of the banned substance in the OxyElite Pro I had taken," Rathy said in a statement.
Rathy won the silver medal last Saturday. American Andrew Scott Adkison won gold while Brazil's Marcelo Giardi placed third. Giardi was promoted to the silver medal while Argentine Alejo de Palma, who had finished fourth, was awarded the bronze.
