CALGARY - Florence Storch is shooting for gold in her most golden of years.

At 101 years old, the life-long Hanna, Alberta resident is aiming high, going for gold in javelin throwing at the Canada 55+ Games in Strathcona County, which gets underway Wednesday.

“I hope to get a gold this time,” said Storch, competing in the newly created over-85 category in the event she began somewhat by accident a decade ago.

“I asked if I have any competition and (organizers) said they don’t know.”

The oldest athlete in the Games, Storch won a silver medal last year in Alberta’s 55+ Games and is hoping to add gold to her trophy case this year.
