First, the South African sports minister was 17 minutes late for the 15-minute Durban bid introduction presentation to the Commonwealth Games Federation Assembly before the Games began.

Now it appears he was way out of line.

The headline in the publication '24 Home' read “Mbalula Slapped Down Over Commonwealth Bid Announcement.”

Reacting to the sports minister’s statement to the general assembly saying he could “guarantee” the government would back the bid, apparently that's hardly the case.

“CAPE TOWN – Sports Minister Filile Mbalula appears to have jumped the gun when he announced in Glasgow that Durban would bid to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games,” was the first paragraph of the story.

The publication went on to report that no discussions of this nature have been held by government.
