GLASGOW, Scotland -- Track and field will not occupy the centre ring of the circus at the 2022 Commonwealth Games if Edmonton wins the bid.

The track has already been eliminated. The CFL end zones have been squared. And, your correspondent has learned, preliminary plans have been made for Rugby Sevens to show up in the bid book to play the large legacy from the 1978 Commonwealth Games.

Commonwealth Stadium would host the opening ceremony and closing ceremony and on the first weekend of the Games, as is the case here, the seven-man, two seven-minute halves version of rugby.

It's a hit. And it's a hoot.

It would be essentially the same plan they put together here, except there are two football teams and two 50,000-seat stadiums in Glasgow to house the two dominant teams in Scottish Premier League.

Celtic-Rangers is one of the great rivalries in the game.

It carried over to the Games.

Celtic Park ended up with the opening ceremonies.
